A True Hero Dies
Miep Gies has sadly passed away, she was the Dutch Office Secretary who hid Anne Frank and her family for 25 months between 1942 - 1944.
After a fall, in which she suffered a neck injury during the Christmas period, she died today aged 100. Miep is one of History's most notably brave people, she was a non-Jew and risked her own life under the Nazi occupation to try to save the Frank family. She also recovered the papers of Anne's Diary, which to historians such as myself regard a valuable source material for helping to understand the plight of Jews during the Nazi regime.
I join many other people in expressing sincere sorrow at the passing of a great champion of defiance against a totalitarian and murderous regime. May she rest in peace.
UKIP North West MEP, Paul Nuttall speaks up!
Today in the European Parliament, UKIP North West MEP stood up for the 5,000 steel workers who stand to lose their jobs thanks to ridiculous EU legislation. The speech was met with boos and jibes from Europhile MEPs, particularly Labour Party MEPs. The President of the Commission, Barroso refused to answer Mr Nuttall's question and the President of the Parliament quickly ended the debate.
Freedom of speech is one thing, but to refuse to face up to the reality of their own foolish laws, the EU is becoming more like Stalinist Russia by the day!
Watch Paul speak up and expose Patchouri, the man behind the Tata Foundation and astonishingly is behind the Closure of Corus.

The LibLabCon aren't interested in jobs for British people, but are more interested in more jobs for themselves!
Closing down the Economy
Whilst I applaud the gestures of Archbishop John Sentamu in the cause for the workers of the Corus Steel Works, which is due to be closed and mothballed. The reality is that we are ignoring the reasons for this closure in the first place.
The EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) which offers "Carbon Credits" to industry Companies carries a target of a cut in 20% of carbon emissions. Corus is unable to continue producing steel whilst under the pressure of the EU targets. Therefore 5,000 jobs will be lost and at a cost of £500m loss in the British Economy. Corus will relocate to India, where trading is more competitive.
There is no point asking Prime Minister Brown to stop the closure, quite simply put, he can't - he is bound by EU regulations, the Brussels Commissioners are the ones in charge.
Foolish pieces of legislation such as the ETS will have a devastating effect on British industry and the Economy, it is time Brussels have far less control over our domestic affairs and we simply return to the free trade agreement we had in 1975. Perhaps then, we can keep our jobs, industry and our economy in better shape.
Italy PM, Berlusconi Punched in the Face!
Silvio Berlusconi was punched in the face in a recent Milan Rally. After giving a rousing speech to Conservative supporters, Berlusconi was signing autographs and was accosted by an irate man. Assuming that the man was not a Berlusconi supporter, I actually applaud him! Berlusconi personifies everything that is wrong with Politics in Europe, corrupt, sleazy and untrustworthy. Perhaps if more people had the balls to hit their representatives, things might change!
The simple alternative would be to use your vote in ANY election to make serious, positive changes - perhaps by voting for another party that says what they stand for. To quote Nigel Farage, "You cannot put a cigarette paper between the three main parties on the issues that affect us"
Irish Abortion Law under Pressure from Lisbon
In Strasbourg, a case has been brought before the Human Rights Court regarding Ireland's unique Anti-Abortion Law.
During the second Irish referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, Pro-EU parties campaigning for a YES vote offered guarantees that certain Irish Laws would not be under threat, including their Abortion law. The then leader of UKIP, Nigel Farage stood up and spoke that these guarantees were "not worth the paper they are written on" in Strasbourg, see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBDNW33Vq0M.
Yet less than two weeks after Lisbon came into effect (December 1st 2009), The Irish Government's Anti-Abortion Law is under threat. UKIP and the Europe and Freedom and Democracy Group campaigned highlighting that such promises were no guarantee, as the whole point of the Lisbon Treaty is for the EU political Class to take control of National Parliaments and increase the powers of the unelected EU Commission.
I truly hope that the Irish go up in arms about this action, and highlight the real flaws in the Lisbon Treaty. The Irish don't suffer fools, and they should not suffer this either!
We truly do live in a post-democratic society - 2010 or 1984? Make your choice now, because soon, you won't be able to. www.ukip.org
DCB Re-appointed Deputy Leader of UKIP
Today UKIP Leader, Lord Pearson, re-appointed David Campbell-Bannerman as the Deputy Leader and Head of Policy. This is an appointment I welcome, David has worked extremely hard to formulate UKIP Policy in Domestic areas with his increasingly bigger Policy groups.
"It is important for UKIP to widen its Policy base, and help us get away from the Media tag of a single issue Party" John Tennant
As we head towards what will be the most interesting General Election of Modern times, UKIP has been working hard in getting ourselves ready with policies, and Campaign plans. Mr Campbell-Bannerman is central to these preparations.
